The Industrial Revolution in Britain harnesses coal and machines, launching sustained economic growth for the first time in history.
1914 to 1945
Two World Wars reshape the global order. The atomic age begins (1945); the United Nations is founded.
1947 to 1991
Decolonization creates dozens of new nations; the Cold War between the US and USSR ends with the Soviet collapse in 1991.
1990s
